As part of our Thursday night rocks program with Nick, we decided to check out an event called “Meat” at the infamous DNA Lounge! This place is the goth/queer spot in SF and in peace loving, tree hugging SF, a little bit of meat and darkness is refreshing!
The event gathered a few “dark artists”, electro-industrial music, free meat, and fun barmen ready to get you absolutely trashed! And so Nick and I did our very best to party like rockstars. I believe I talked to just about everyone in that club but don’t ask me to remember who they were! It was loads of fun!
The art was quite interesting, my favorite was by Andrew E.Yang, he uses vinyl and glass very interesting: Stitchmind
And good thing too I made it home safely, stopping for donut on Polk looking like a smurfette, Bob’s donut is open till 2am so I’m guessing I wasn’t the weirdest thing they’ve ever seen! But if you have the munchies on Polk I definitely recommend that place, good donuts good atmosphere!
DNA Lounge I believe I befriended this gentleman but I have no idea what his name might have been!
Me and the orchid lady… Damn, it’s really only on pictures that I realize how tiny I am…
It’s back to school, even the burners (people who went to burning man) are back… time to get groovy! This weekend a super hippy/yogi event was organized at Golden Gate Park… “Power to the peaceful” with a name like that you can expect plenty of… “we’re all brothers and sisters” (go incest go!) “mother earth” “namaste”…
Unfortunately, it seems San Francisco doesn’t like peace anymore and so the weather was crap, well at least it did not rain! but it was quite cold and the sky was gray.
The festival itself is quite massive, with performances from Alanis Morissette and some ragga band, Spearhead I think. There was also a lot of food stands (that surprisingly didn’t just sell vegetarian food) and random new age craft and burner style cloths. And a DJ set for the very “enlightened” peaceful!
I had a great time, just staring at random weird people, under aged drunk kids, old hippies, tie dye, alternative people juggling… It was fun, quite entertaining, very San Fancisco! I recommend!

Labour day weekend, I love how we celebrate labour by not working!
This weekend a few events were organized, I went to the Free Shakespeare in the park, cause you need a little bit of culture every now and then but in all honesty, I wasn’t too impressed and left before the end. Fair enough it was in a park so it’s hard to get the acoustic right, but the production was somewhat too “San Francisco” to my liking, the female character seemed to be in constant hysteria, making it even harder to understand what they were saying and the actors seemed to run around and just make a lot of wind without much of a purpose. I’m sorry maybe I am a little too harsh, I’m a tough critic! I guess the acoustic was the main issue, but it was free so that’s pretty nice.
Then Monday I went to the Art Festival in Sausolito, the theme this year was Woodstock revival so they had invited all these music artists from back then and some youngsters, cause lets face it a lot of stars from back then ODed!
And so a big crowed of 50 something and over gathered around the stage a glass of Chardonnay in one hand, the iphone in the other singing along and dancing. The entrance was 20$ and the art exhibited was overpriced but they were some nice things and some pieces were sold, not that many though.
Often Woodstock revivals are organsied, but the Woodstock generation doesn’t attend those things. They don’t want to be in the mud anymore and the music played is usually new stuff. But this was an authentic Woodstock revival and those people that came in SUVs drank wine and bought expensive art are the Woodstock generation. Though the crowed gave a standing ovation to the artist on stage, it’s no surprise no one reacted when the young, Janis Joplin looking singer said “peace and love it can work”.
I think one of those 50 something people should just come out and say “Woodstock was ours, we did it and we moved on just give it a rest already!”… But I am in San Francisco so I guess I can’t really express those things… so… Peace Man!

September is here, how time flies! Everybody’s been telling me about how nice the weather gets in September as the Indian summer quicks in. So far it is indeed better than August, but then again August was winter, so I guess that makes September a cool spring. the fog disappears by midday and the sun shines in the afternoon, the temperatures are still quite chilled, the main problem is the cold wind. But lets not be spoiled, I’m welcoming the change.
I’ve actually been feeling a lot less depressed and I’m getting most of my energy back, let us hope this is a good omen and things are finally going to turn around for me!

Once every blue moon, summer reaches San Francisco. At first you can’t believe it, so you keep a sweater and a coat in your bag but as the temperature starts to rise during the day and the little summer dresses come out you start to forget you’re is San Francisco! The fog disappears and everyone starts walking around in sandals as if they were in “California”.
When it happens you need to be very proactive cause you know it’s not going to last! So you reach the far back of your dresser where you’re summer cloths are hidden and you quickly make plans. My favorite thing in summer is picnicking, in a park, in a forest, on the beach, it doesn’t matter, being outside chilling enjoying good food and good wine, in good company, what more could one ask for?
Although I know deep down the warm sunny weather is bound to quickly give way to cold and fog, each time it happens I want to believe it will last for more than a day… of course it never does, the wind starts blowing again and in a few hours the dense fog has claimed the city back. And I look at the park next to my place and see people in jeans and winter jackets walking their dogs and it seems like it was all just a reverie…
I miss summer!
On other news, Meredith, the one and only came by to San Francisco on her way to Burning man with boyfriend Mark. They are both wonderful people and talented artists it ’s just so amazing how inspiring people like that can be, it’s like their creative energy radiates and all of a sudden you feel like making stuff!

Well to kick yourself out of depression, there is nothing quite like… Partying! A few friends, more than a few drinks and a good dose of insanity… yep and I’m back in business!
Guillaume, a friend of Sophie was in San Francisco for a month, so of course as a good hostess, I felt it was my duty to take him out and enjoy the nightlife. Out of our slightly alcohol infused evenings it was decided we would go on a road trip, down south where the sun always shines!
And so on Friday night, later than we were supposed to as I was recovering from a bad hungoveritis, we left Foggy SF to Santa Barbara!
Using Nick’s car, we drove down the highway to Salinas, where we slept in a shady motel! But that’s what road trips are all about! The boys tried to find a bar, but apparently we weren’t in the right part of town!
The next day we took the scenic route to Santa Barbara, going to Monterey, Carmel, along the coastline to finally arrive to hazy not so warm Santa Barbara where all the motels were full! Who said there was a recession? Thank goodness, we found one very nice hotel (well thank Guillaume most of all!) So we got a nice room, with a clean shower and 3 beds! yeah!
In the evening we went out Americana style, drinking more margarita than one should be allowed, dancing and goofing around, while the worst DJ ever played some crappy r’n'b! But I had a blast it was silly and fun, and it’s nice not to care!
No surprise the next day started a bit slow, Guillaume unfortunately lost his camera, which put a downer on things. We had breakfast at Ihop (my first time trying this chain) – the sizes are just ridiculously huge! cholesterol and diabetes anyone?
The road back was nice and mellow as the weather never really cleared, we had cold fog in Santa Barbara, and arrived in Santa Cruz to haze due to the wild fires and finally nice dense fog in SF!
So apart from the weather, this road trip was loads of fun! Thank you Boyz!

Well it’s been a while, I wish I could say it’s because much has been going on but it’s actually quite the opposite. I guess I’ve been bragging about not letting this situation bring me down… so of course it finally did!
So basically I’ve been feeling a little under the weather, loss of faith, loss of energy, loss of interest, what can I say? I’m human after all.
So depressed me, usually confide herself at home and just let daylight fade away, finding comfort in the night. Asking herself questions that have no answers, remembering the past as though it was some stranger’s life, basically going borderline insane.
Well at least I can also blame part of this slumber on the weather, there’s nothing like the San Francisco fog to give you gloomy ideas…
Anyways a few things have kept me sane, my singing classes, the Thursday rehearsal and Francie B (the cat that would kick me out of bed every morning whether I wanted it or not!).
Still it has not been all gloom and doom, I’ve also been out to concerts. The San Francisco scene has quite a lot of good quality shows, a lot of talented young people out there!

After Tokyo any city would feel small and a little stale… But San Francisco can be a fun town. Old and young jaded hippies, silicon valley rich geeks in fancy cars, fat tourist in shorts and sandals… fancy bars, squanky places, alternative lifestyles, gay community…
Sunday I met up with Nick, we decided to have our monthly cultural day! The San Francisco Symphony was playing at Dolores park (one of the most popular park in SF for a reason I ignore). I was impressed by the big turn out, the park was absolutely packed! The concert was nothing ground breaking as they played The Swan lake, Beethoven the 5th, and Brahms Hungarian Dance… Kind of like listening to “classical music for Dummies” but it was alright and everyone seemed to enjoy it, some people even attempted to dance!
We tried to check out the Mission street fair but it was already over so we just head back to the park and bummed around till some girl with a cute basket came up and proposed some “special brownies” . Of course any reasonable person would say, “bad idea”, but I’m not reasonable and I felt more like having brownies than the special ingredient… So assuming it was most likely a rip off I decided to buy one, which we shared…
Well it wasn’t a rip off! and within an hour I was high as a Nasa space ship… It felt like being underwater, everything was going slowly with a deep echo. The boys drove me home luckily because I have no idea how I would have made it home otherwise, I mean I was conscious but just spacing out, I don’t think I would have been able to articulate my address to a cab.
So a word to the wise, if you buy a brownie at Dolores park have it at home, cause the streets of San Francisco are creepy when you’re high!

I love that thing, it’s made of car parts! So cool… Fort Mason

I live in Pacific Heights, and it is not called “heights” for no reason, I’m right on top of a hill which means as soon as a little bit of fog lurks the bay we get most of it, it’s a bit like living in a cloud! Well as much as I hate this disgusting damp sensation, there is something beautifully creepy about this fog, the way it cast darkness all of a sudden, the windy waves of mist…
I have tried taking pictures of it but not much success so far… practice makes perfect… and it seems I’m going to get plenty of opportunities to improve my skills!

I kind of like that shot
